About the Authors

Kia Portafekas is a musician, composer, teacher, and author. Her first book, Making Music With Your Child, published by MMB Music, Inc., was funded in part by a grant from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. She has also recorded Kia's Kids, a CD of original songs by her students ages 6-12, and been featured in a documentary, Kia's Kids, which aired on PBS. She is a graduate of Queens College (Aaron Copland School of Music), Mannes Conservatory, and New York's famous FAME School-Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art. www.MusicKia.com

Sally Portafekas was born and raised in New York City. She managed a medical office in New York for twenty-five years, choosing to work in healthcare to make a difference in people's lives. After retirement, she pursued a career as a watercolor artist and photographer. She also worked at the Children's Museum of Phoenix as a "playologist," engaging in exploratory play with children.

Haley Berlak is a Freelance Illustrator that specializes in Children's Books, Character Design and Calligraphy. Previously she illustrated for Norella Press, LLC for the "Critter Sitter Chronicles", a middle grade children's book series. Ever since she first picked up a pencil at the age of two, Haley has always had a creative spirit! Her hope is that her love of the arts will encourage young minds to stay creative with their artistic passions.
